Visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Just in Time for This Annual Lecture
At The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Ellenor Alcorn, the Eloise W. Martin Curator of European Decorative Arts at the Art Institute of Chicago, is presenting British Silversmiths in the 18th Century: Art or Industry?
Eighteenth century British silversmiths worked in a highly competitive environment. Though supported by their guild, silversmiths in London faced the challenges that every small business must address: finding start-up capital, maintaining a skilled workforce, developing a niche product, and turning a profit. From court commissions to household wares, London makers were challenged to navigate a narrow path between art and commerce.
On Thursday, October 11, you can attend this lecture at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The Nelson-Atkins maintains collections of more than 35,000 works of art and welcomes 500,000 visitors a year. We look forward to seeing you there!
